Typically, this signature event of the Torch of Wisdom Foundation, Inc. recognizes those in the community who have positively impacted the community in the areas of scholarship, community enrichment and cultural arts. This year, due to the devastating impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our community we are highlighting community enrichment by recognizing and celebrating Frontline Workers, Essential Workers and Small Businesses. Art Extravaganza Educational Seminar

The Torch of Wisdom Foundation and Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club will once again host an Art Extravaganza featuring an educational seminar and auction. This year, we will partner with Urban Organic to present the seminar “Creating Generational Wealth Through Art Collecting”, where attendees will hear tips and best practices for starting their art collecting journey. The Torch of Wisdom Foundation and Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club will for the first time ever, host an online Art Extravaganza featuring some of metro Detroit’s most esteemed artists. This year’s honorary chair for the 2020 Virtual Art Auction is Dr. Charles Boyd. He is an avid art enthusiast and collector who has a discriminating eye and deep understanding of the value of exceptional works of art. Registration details will be available shortly.

    Mark your calendars and join us virtually on Sunday, October 4, from 2-5 p.m. for our 9th Annual Honoring Local Heroes “Black, No Tie” affair, as we recognize and celebrate the work of this year’s special honorees and other distinguished heroes! There is no cost to join this event.

    We are pleased to announce our 2020 Honoring Local Heroes special honorees:

    • Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, State of Michigan
    • Joneigh S. Khaldun, MD, MPH, FACEP, Chief Medical Executive, Chief Deputy Director for Health, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services

    The Torch of Wisdom Foundation will pay tribute to Lt. Gov. Gilchrist and Dr. Khaldun for their efforts in helping Governor Gretchen Whitmer keep Michigan residents safe in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
