CARRYING THE TORCH: THE POWER OF NOW! Dedicated to honoring those who have continued to persevere and serve their community.

About this event

For the 10th year, The Torch of Wisdom Foundation’s Honoring Local Heroes “Black No-Tie” Affair will recognize those who have persevered professionally or personally, in spite of the pandemic in the areas of Scholarship, Cultural Arts, and Community Enrichment. Additionally, a traditional part of our event is to highlight a local icon who has excelled in all three cornerstone initiatives. We celebrate these individuals and groups as they are “unsung heroes” in our community who like TOWF are committed to “Changing Tomorrow Today”.

Our honorary event chair is Congresswoman Brenda J.Lawrence and co-chairs are Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II & Assistant Secretary of State Heaster Wheeler.

In addition to announcing our 2021 Local Heroes recipients, other highlights from the evening will a special video message by 2021 Trailblazer Award recipient Governor Gretchen Whitmer. We will also present this year’s ICON Award recipient to Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. This will be a night to remember as we will also have entertainment provided by Kym Brady, the Urban Violinist, and a Special Guest appearance by International performer and recording artist KIMMIE HORNE.
